Decent ergonomic keyboard

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 July 2024Style Name: WiredColour Name: BlackVerified PurchaseI ordered this keyboard as a replacement to my old keyboard which was slightly different to this one. This keyboard is wired and Initially I was worried it wouldn’t be as comfortable as different design, however this one is much more confortable. Easy to set up. Only down side was the noise of the keys when pressed, however takes no time to get used to it and I quite like the noise now and don’t notice it. Keys are raised so makes it easier for me to use. Looks a lot more expensive than what I paid for it and it fits perfectly on my desk, great size.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 January 2024Style Name: WirelessColour Name: BlackVerified PurchaseReviewing the USB plugin version (having had two of the wireless version arrive DOA)
This is thankfully plug and play with no nasty key-mapping surprises - true UK English layout.
I wanted this to replace an iffy laptop keyboard. This one sits over the (HP Pavilion) laptop keyboard and provided the front legs are in the elevated position, it does not interfere with the laptop keyboard or the oversensitive trackpad (I use a separate track ball). The keyboard has some good rubber pads to prevent sliding around (although not on the bottom of the front legs - which is a minus).
(Niche issue paragraph)
I wanted a ten-key-less keyboard as I don't use the number pad and I found that with the laptop's number pad causing the centre of the typewriter keys being just slightly left of the centre of the laptop (by half the width of the number pad) I was getting sight issues with my vari-focal glasses. This may be a niche issue, but for comfortable typing I centre the laptop's typewriter keys relative to my body - which means the screen is offset relative to the centre of the focal zone of my glasses - and consequently the bottom right-hand corner of the screen was always just uncomfortably out of focus. I have the "split" of this keyboard centred relative to the screen which means that I am centred relative to the screen and it is all comfortably in focus.
Moving to an "ergonomic keyboard" (i.e a keyboard that is split with the two halves at an angle to one another and slightly raised towards the centre) can take a bit of getting used to - because if your typing is "hunt and pick" rather than "touch typing with fingers over home keys", the keys fall in a different position - right-hand keys really need to be operated with the right hand (and vice versa). If you learnt to touch type, you adjust relatively easily, and I find it comfortable with your wrists straight relative to your (angled) forearms.
I do get caught out that, because of the split, F6 is not just above the 6 key on the left, but is on the right above the 7 key (with F7-F12 similarly over-offset). I also find the delete key a long stretch.
The layout is not perfect as it is "right-hand heavy" - but at least the cursor movements have their own keys and do not rely on key combinations for Home, End, PgUp, PgDn etc. Some keyboards have moved the cursor keys to the centre of the wrist-rest in the gap between your wrists so they can be operated by your thumbs - but these are much more expensive (and may not span my laptop's keyboard).
For the price, I am happy with this keyboard and I like the more traditional key travel and feel. The plastic may not be the best and it may be a touch noisy for use in a quiet library, but it does feel robust.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 March 2025Style Name: WirelessColour Name: BlackVerified PurchaseSuper comfortable keyboard that I take with me when travelling. Very reliable 2.4ghz connection via the dongle means that I've never had any noticeable issues with it in use, which I can't say the same about other wireless devices I've had before, and so makes for an easy choice over Bluetooth when connecting to a laptop where you can just plug an go.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 November 2024Style Name: WiredColour Name: BlackVerified PurchaseThis is a great ergo keyboard for £25. Yes it's loud, yes it doesn't have a lot of fancy features, yes it's plasticy. But it's actually still a huge improvement from a regular keyboard for comfort, personally I find the sound level to be absolutely fine during the day. You just won't get this comfort / ergonomic value anywhere else for this price. Amazing value product and very happy with my purchase until I can afford something a bit more expensive over £100. But I'm in no rush since this keyboard is great. :)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 August 2021Style Name: WirelessColour Name: BlackVerified PurchaseI liked it. I have been using the c. £100 Microsoft Sculpt for some time now. (Beware... it can be hard to go back to a "straight" keyboard once you become used to the MUCH BETTER ergonomic designs.)
I also like the narrow design. Not narrow because of tight spacing of keys. Narrow by eschewing the numeric keypad that normal on the right hand side. If you really need a numeric keypad, they are readily available as a separate item.
But.
a) I couldn't get the Bluetooth to work with my Android. (And what I could find with Google Search not encouraging.) (Worked fine with Windows.)
b) The keys are "clattery". Doesn't bother me, but not to everyone's taste.
c) The faces of the keys are flat and semi-glossy. Who cares? I need to look at my fingers as I type sometimes, and it isn't always easy to read the legends because of reflected light.
I've highlighted potential "problems". But I DO like the keyboard.
The similar Perixx Periduo-406 is described as having a "membrane" keyboard, which nearly stooped me buying it... but membrane keyboards have come a long way... very happy with that, too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 July 2024Style Name: WiredColour Name: WhiteVerified PurchaseBeen using my laptop keyboard for a long time and finally wrists started to feel uncomfortable.. thought i would give ergonomic keyboards a try and they are surprisingly difficult to find. Also wanted one that didn't have the number pad so that it's a bit more condensed.
For what i got for the price (white USB for £30 at the time) i think it's a steal. It feels really nice to type on - hand-wrist-arm alignment is great and feels pretty natural - and sounds lovely. I do touch type and it didn't feel like a big transition.
Of course it's a windows keyboard so am using Karabiner to re-map keys on my Mac. You can get access to all the function keys which is better than with a much more expensive Logitech Ergo which i also trialled - had issues with remapping those, am sure it's possible but i gave up.
Only downside for me is that the wrist pad area isn't padded but it's a very minor thing. Also if you want something that doesn't sound as 'clicky' or has a softer feel on the key presses, this probably isn't for you.
