How to Play

Start Simple

When introducing a treat puzzle to your cat, start simple. Fill compartments with tasty treats or food and leave them uncovered and visible. Place the puzzle where your cat usually eats and have patience! Cats like to investigate new things several times before deciding if they want to engage with them.

Increase the Difficulty

When your cat feels comfortable eating from the treat puzzle, the next step is to cover the food so that it is still a little visible. When your cat understands how it works, make the puzzle progressively more difficult by covering the treats or food according to the instructions.

Try a New Level

Our treat puzzles are available in different difficulty levels. Intermediate suits all playful and food-motivated cats. Advanced is great for active or smart cats who like challenges.

I created my first puzzle toy more than 25 years ago because I needed a way to keep my pets active indoors. I couldn't imagine how many pet parents my games would help. I purchased this to slow down my cats eating as he consistently eats to quickly and throws up. He has a feeding ball but its not difficult enough. This took him longer to figure out and even when he managed to uncover the treats it wasn't too easy for him to get them out. A good mental challenge and it slowed down his eating. Highly recommend. Holds a full dry food meal and seems very sturdy as he did get a bit aggressive with it!

This has been a huge hit with my cats! Neither of my cats are particularly clever when it comes to puzzles, so I wasn’t sure how they’d do with this. To my surprise, they figured it out pretty quickly and have been obsessed ever since!

The puzzle itself is well-designed, with multiple pockets for treats. I made the mistake of filling each pocket with too many treats the first time, and my cats absolutely stuffed themselves. Now I use fewer treats per pocket, which encourages them to work longer and keeps them from overindulging.

It’s not just a snack dispenser; it’s a great mental and physical activity for them. They spent ages playing with it, and I love seeing them so engaged and entertained. Overall, it's a fantastic purchase for anyone looking to keep their cats stimulated and happy!

This is a nice product for your cat, it's got options of difficulty and curiosity for your cat to retrieve treats. My friend recommended it because her cat loves it, however mine is still a bit like warm with it and still prefers other treat play options. I'm giving it time though as he may get into it. These things take time so i just pop the treats into the open holes for him to retreive and repeat this. Well made product though and happy with it.

- This is a pretty impressive-looking but still beginner to intermediate level cat feeder. It said to increase difficulty slowly, but after two days of my cat not even having to think about it, I skipped to the hardest level and that took him about day to figure out completely. This is NOT a food-motivated cat, nor is he a particularly bright one (I know, I love him, but he's an orange tabby with very limited access to the One Orange Brain Cell they all share -- pictures posted as evidence that if he can solve these, ANY cat can. Images as proof.)
- Well-made, easy to clean, dishwasher safe
- Can be set up in stages to help cats learn the skills to successfully acquiring all the kibbles/treats/etc
- perfectly sized for most dry cat foods and treats (ladybugs will accept and release up to Greenies Cats size treats)
- no jams, nothing trapped that needed prying out
- makes slowing down kibble inhalation and portion control a lot easier, as he's no longer focused on the bottom of his dish
- already able to transfer skills learned with this toy/feeder to others
- most importantly, and why I began this: HE IS NO LONGER BOLTING HIS FOOD AND REGURGITATING IT. Because, beyond the "ew I just stepped in semi-digested cat food" factor, it was seriously bad for his health and probably hurt.

Cons:

- he now refuses to be fed out of a food dish
- it now takes 20+min to portion out his dry food in the mornings between three toys, two fillable mice I then hide, and a treat dispensing ball that contains a spiral to up the difficulty beyond "ball with a hole in it". Again in the evenings.

My cat is now so smug as he no longer needs me, he feeds himself and is a mighty hunter, thank you very much.

This is a monster of my own creation. That said, this is also a really good puzzle feeder or treat dispenser with the ability to increase or decrease the difficulty. We had a couple of secondhand dog puzzles he was enjoying, but this is much better and of all the puzzles we have it continues to be the easiest to fill and clean for the longest length of feeding time as he doesn't get more than 4-5 kibbles per ladybug.

The leaf in the middle really ups the difficulty, you might want to leave that open for a long while as it can lock up several other leaves. Only once they're slapping leaves aside is it a good time to stick this wrench in the cogs 😄

My cat loves puzzles and she's already got a simple one from Trixie brand. I decided to get this for her as she's really smart and the Trixie puzzle is too easy for her now. On her first try with this puzzle, she solved the sliders and raindrops in 2 minutes! I like that you can shift the raindrops in different positions to make the puzzle easier or more difficult. My cat is still figuring out the spinning wheel part, so this is definitely the right difficulty level for her. The only issue I found was that the holes seem to be a bit too shallow. She tried fishing treats out but they keep falling back into the hole. My cat has to stuff her face into the hole to eat the treat.

Our female cat has earned the nickname "Hoover" as she is known to vacuum up almost any food she can get to. Potato chips, spicy corn chips, even pickle slices- if she can get to it, she will eat it, or try to eat it. Any time we give her more than a tiny handful of kibble, she will invariably devour it so fast that it comes right back up. Our much slower eating boy cat had been very tolerant of her Hoovering up his food as well as her own, so we started feeding them in different rooms so he would get more than a small portion of food before she inhaled it all.

As she can't be given more than a teaspoon's amount of food at a time (any more, and you will find yourself stepping in a pile of it on the carpet a few minutes later) we decided to look for a bowl that could slow down her eating. This bowl had decent reviews and was not expensive, so we gave it a try. It appears to be well-made, and not too difficult to clean- the channels in it are big enough to get a brush into.

At first, "Hoover" was not pleased with this new food receptacle. At ALL. She could smell and see all those tasty nuggets that she usually made disappear within thirty seconds, but she couldn't get at them easily any longer. I could see she was frustrated, so I put down a few pieces of kibble right next to the new bowl. She gulped down this small bit of food, then looked at me, wanting more. I then tapped the bowl and "showed" her the kibble sitting in the channels of the bowl.

At first, she walked away from this strange thing. Maybe her "real" bowl would re-appear, and she wouldn't have to deal with this kibble puzzle dish. She came back and checked out the new bowl again, and managed to get a few pieces of kibble out of it. I noticed she was shoving the bowl around with her paw on the cushion-y "placemat" we have under the cats' food and water. She got a few more pieces of kibble.

She never flipped the bowl over entirely, which is what I was waiting for (and dreading.) The placemat we have keeps the bowl from moving around very much, so I can't attest to the bowl's "suction" (?) effectiveness. I just checked out the underside of the bowl, and don't see any suction cups or anything, but we keep their bowls on the cushy placemat anyway, so it's not going anywhere.

She returned to the strange object that was holding her food hostage again and again, and each time managed to get out a few more pieces of kibble. I just checked the bowl, and there are about a dozen or so pieces of kibble sitting in it, which is amazing to see, as she is so strongly food-motivated.

The bowl just arrived this afternoon, so I can't attest to its effectiveness in the long-term, but it seems to be a success so far. It has broken the feeding time cycle of giving her a tiny bit of kibble, her begging for more food, giving a tiny bit more kibble, then begging again, etc. I'll report back after a week or so. Hopefully, this new bowl will continue to keep our Hoover-cat on a lower setting.

Edit: it's been about four days of her using the new bowl. As we saw that she had been leaving about half of the kibble in the bowl after eating (unheard of with a regular bowl) we increased the minimal amount of kibble we gave her to her entire morning portion. A day or so ago, if we checked the bowl after she appeared to finish eating, and there would be about seven to ten nuggets of kibble left. When she begged later, we just tapped the bowl. She got the message: if she wanted more kibble she would have to extract it from the bowl. ---- We noticed yesterday after giving her the evening's kibble allotment that the new bowl with its challenging channels was completely empty. She has figured out how to get all of the kibble out of her new bowl. After we fed her this morning, sure enough, she got all of the kibble out of it. But the bowl is still a success, as it has really slowed down her eating. In a way, she is now eating like a normal cat- and not like a fur-covered Dirt Devil. Very happy with our purchase, and if you have a Hoover kitty of your own, we highly recommend this bowl. :)
